    Dare I say I'm enjoying,
    The lesser Rob this morning,
Sadly No - I'll get a final warning!!

Nice one Saly, and yes it is true,
We both have differing points of view,
I'm sorry your enjoyment was spoiled,
And the rowers thwarted as they toiled,
It's more fun, unless it goes awry,
Than the boat race to watch some paint dry.
And before this verse I abandon,
A final warning goes to Anton.

There'll no doubt be justice sought
That guy will have to go to court
And porridge he will have to sample
Just so we are set an example
Of what will happen in the Summer
        When anyone who's even dumber
        Trying for fifteen minutes fame
Sees the final flicker of their Olympic flame.

          Cloughie you are so right,
He may well have to fight,
To keep out of that jail,
          By paying all his bail,
          If then they feel able,
          To set an example,
They may well make him pay,
          For spoiling boat race day,
They won't want the same tricks,
          Spoiling the Olympics.

          (I've already got my coat.)

            Though inexact attempts at rhymes
Are not among the worst of crimes,
            I think that decent education
            Could much improve the situation.
            Would university expansion
Make people more aware of scansion?

Just poems for fun, but it's clear for all to see,
An Auden or an Elliot I'll never be.

                (I can't stop myself now!).

I have to agree with Mary
That some of the scansion's been scary
(I did it in Latin when a youth,
What a way to spend one's time, forsooth!)

                  But at the same time
It's only fair to point out that the sentiments have been fine
                  And so has the rhyme

I went there many years ago
Did it help - the answer no
But the subject of my appliance
Did not scan verse but taught me science
                    Maybe I need another year
For Tennyson, Keats and perhaps Shakespeare.

Well to uni I never went,
My youth it was mostly mis spent,
O levels I have only four,
My knowledge of scansion is poor,
But I do like poems that rhyme,
I hope mine get better in time.

Well, not a lot rhymes with 'scansion', so I had to get 'expansion' in somehow....or 'mansion' or 'stanchion', which are even more unlikely

                          Of education I had none,
At eighteen I found rhyming fun,
                          But now I'm nearly eighty-two,
I'll leave the hard work all to you.

No way Saly it cannot be true,
That you are approaching eighty two,
Your poems and posts are such much fun,
They sound like the work of a young 'un,
And remember age is no big deal,
You are only as old as you feel.

Thanks. As old as I feel varies bwtween seventeen and ninety, as you will find out one day.

The "scansion" rhymes reminded me of:

"For your verses to make you feel proud
Instead of just pleasing the crowd,
                                Pay attention to rhyme
("N" and "M" do not chime)
And for goodness sake read them aloud.

                                For a limerick's built like a mansion
Word by word with most careful expansion
                                The rhymes must display
                                A A B B A
But the crucial component is scansion."
