Panjandrum
Ode to Joy?
Schubert all day and all night
Thou undisputed master of song
Thy quartets and trios our endless delight.
How many more than 9 symphonies
Hadst thou not been taken by syphilis?
Thy too early death one of the great villainies.
Thy 30 years spent in the act of creation
Now crammed into a mere 8 days duration.
And all this, though done by Wright,
Yet it offends; it is Wrong!Last edited by Guest; 22-03-12, 18:59.

Schubert on 3 - A sonnet in celebration
This week we’re having Schubert round the clock
Throughout the day and also through the night
Such chamber works as Shepherd on the Rock
By courtesy of Mr Roger Wright
If Schubert were alive this very day
He might be quite delighted with the feste
Of works that he has never heard us play
And symphonies and lieder and the rest.
Death and the Maiden, Earl King, Auf dem Strohm
Marches, Serenades and Polonaise
Where did Franz’s ideas all come from
To keep his ouvre going for seven days?
I think I'll add some gin on to my list
I'm going to listen on until I'm p-----!

Already posted on the Perfomance thread, but I've changed the last stanza. Is that allowed?Last edited by Guest; 22-03-12, 20:54.

Press Cutting -" Sir Malcolm Sargent said the cat in the painting of Lady Dalkeith was a present from him."
Americans have written books on how to be good fun
And in demand at parties every night when work is done,
Popularity's the passwork - more and richer friends the aim,
And how to influence people, gain position, wealth and fame,
Are topics of importance to the people in the street,
[Impose your personality on everyone you meet.]
In England if you wish to mingle with the upper set,
There's no improvement on this plan - give every one a pet.
A dachsi for the Duchess, a Persian cat for Jane,
And there's a ready-made excuse for you to call again,
The problem is to know if one will get the frozen mitten,
If one calls at Windsor Castle, uninvited with a kitten.
One of my efforts from about 50 years ago. I liked MS really

Well posted, Salymap!
Well, we are certainly both trying to keep things alive on the classical forum, but I rather fear that most of our fellow message boarders are to be found queuing up at the check-in desks in their local airport. Probably been there since midday.
(Would that also be known as "Lilac Time"?)

Nor do I work in litres.
Iambic and Dactyl
Make me ill
Trochee and Spondee
Are towns on the Dee?
Anapaest is far more me!
But a Pyrrhic victory that would be!
Sorry saly. I think the copywright issues is a major against people posting anything they may wish to be published.

So ...
Farewell then Franz Schubert
Died of syphilis
Which is on the increase, Kev's Mum says.
One night with Venus
Followed by a lifetime with Mercury in those days.
but I'm on O2 so should be ok.

These few lines I am giving.
Why, who is that on the phone now? Lord Lloyds-Bank offering to set your words to a merry tune he's just found, erm, composed
