Melvyn Bragg (then I could watch the South Bank Show without having to subscribe to Sky)
Andy Robinson (once he's been fired as Scotland rugby coach)
Roger Wright (once he's dismembered and/or sold off Radio 3)
Rowan Williamson (to give him a platform from which to continue his attacks on government policy)
Why does it have to be a broadcaster? Lots of high-profile appointments go to people without previous experience in the relevant field - what did Phlip Hammond know about defence policy when he was suddenly moved from the Department for Transport?
Actually, the other Phil Hammond (the doctor and 'Countdown' regular) would make a good Health Secretary, leaving the current incumbent free to try his hand at 'updating' the BBC.

Yes Tim 'SOAP' Davey would be a good choice....after all he is Head of Audio [or some such]....if they give him a six month go at Head of Digi-image thingy; just so that he gets a full knowledge of what is expected....he will surely have enough experience to be DG

Now, I've got just the right person....Jenny Abramsky (sorry my mealliefingered vitriol left off the Dame bit)

....She'd make a great DG....but I'd put it as a stipulation in her contract that she first gives back the extremely good pay off she got when last she left the BBC....

Give it back to Greg Dyke. I'd like to see the faces of the b######s who shafted him last time.

excellent sympathy anotherbob and a compelling thought ....alas it looks like Entwistle or Ms Thomson on the Grauns runes
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Does that mean she would loom into view?

The lady wife (whose name for the moment escapes me) is a sweet natured, generous sort, but she used to refer to this Coe character as "self-regarding, sanctimonious little prat" and that was when he was just a runner
Since he became a Lord (don't you wish you could run fast?) her references to him have become somewhat more scathing and not for mixed company.

                          erm they are

I think Ken has probably had enough of the UK what with the rather excellent report he wrote for the last Government on Creativity and Education was largely ignored and there's not much chance with this lot

Sadly, only the occasional line for the dog.

He'd get my vote - by the way why is the DG not elected by us, long-suffering licence-payers? Whatever happened to the democracy we are preaching around the world, and in particular the Middle-East?
