my answer was going to be 'none' ....judging by the expense of the last one's wage/pension, and the disastrous changes he over saw, now fully implemented. (hopefully)

i'd like to see sir ken robinson in the post, but would redefine dg as a voluntary role, where creative ideas are more important than money.

but sir ken lives in the states now apparently ....he could pop over and 'over see' though ....(which might well be all the role actually takes....(just minus a conscience or a brain in 'some cases' recently).

Unless the Olympics are a disaster (and possibly even if they are), I would imagine Sir Sebastian Coe will be a shoe-in. He'll surely have a bit of time on his hands to pop - sprint, indeed - into New Broadcasting House and out again.

I don't really like any of them much.

The only ones I would even begin to consider are George Entwistle, Helen Boaden and the rather interesting Australian Mark Scott who to my own big surprise might even be my tentative first choice.

Most of the others would be absolutely dire for a variety of reasons. These include crass commercialism, dodgy defending of expenses, party political luvviedom and bumptiousness.

Actually, I wouldn't put several of them in charge of caring for my Great Aunt Maud. She has never existed but I fear that the demands on them would still be too great.
