    Robert Sherman

I'm not sure if it's the magnificent performances from the likes of Phil Harris and Louis Prima, or the artwork supervised by Walt, or just the wonderful song that makes this Sherman and Sherman classic stand up as one of the great all-time bits of film music for me. Anyway he and his brother wrote some of the great songs from my youth and I'm just marking his passing. Have a banana!

It was all those things. John - Thank you for bringing his passing to our notice. It is only in recent years that I have started to appreciate what fantastic songs they were. The consistent quality at Disney was, to use that phrase, just awesome.

He may have been worthy of mention, but I just about threw up when they played something sung by Julie Andrews in his honour on Breakfast - that "expialidotious" thing! I instantly switched to R4 to minimse risk to other road users.

I can never hear that song or see references to it without thinking of that great Scottish football headline when Inverness, at that time I think a couple of leagues lower beat Celtic Super Caley Go Ballistic, Celtic Are Atrocious.

Robert Sherman died back in March 2012. His brother Richard died at the weekend - they wrote some wonderful film music in their time. Here's a favourite of mine with Sterling Holloway as Kaa the snake, attempting to attract Mowgli into its deadly coils. Great song, great animation, great performance - makes me want to go back and watch 'The Jungle Book' again.
