Justin Fashanu. A very high profile player, who came out after retirement.

He was famously a Barnardo's boy.
He did indeed come out, and remained high profile.
His death continues to be a matter of some uncertainty. He was connected to Stephen Milligan, and there are suspicions that there may be more to both of their deaths than was initially thought.
Its worth looking into.

No footballers yet, but there are Steven Davies, wicket-keeper for the England c ricket team, and Gareth Thomas, Welsh rugby captain, & Nigel Owens, a rugby referee, & John Blankenstein, a Dutch football referee.
