Not on this occasion, but we have previous - my suggestion to agree to disagree preempts the possibility.

Sad news of DJ's demise - was an OK actor who could hold a tune - but not near my top list of favourite singers - The Monkees were well manufactured with the bonus of good pop songs from the Brill Building.

My memory of the Monkees films was of a younger, musical version of the madcap comedy of The Goodies. They were recognised as having been put together as a commercial product, like The Spice Girls later, (with DJ the Richard Hammond of the group?). They had a string of catchy hits as many groups did at that time when they were in favour for a few years.

Unfortunately, the soundtracks have been removed from some of the YouTube clips so I can't remind myself of what DJ sounded like but I'm surprised that he's rated among the 'greats'. Good times, young times, fun times ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I don't think he is, frenchie (except, perhaps, in a postmodern ironic manner!) - I suspect that many have responded as I did: sadness at the passing of someone who cheered up their childhood and who always seems in their memories young and full of the optimism of '60s youth. (The songs are much better than I preferred to "remember" in my later, cynical '70s adolescence, too!)

Or even 3rd 4th or anywhere.

Whenever I hear Daydream Believer, a catchy enough song, the plagiarism 'Cheer up Peter Reid' comes into my head!
