Yes; this truly disgraceful affair really stood out when I heard it today.

Disgraceful? Well, yes, OK - but it's surely not even the beginning! It's good that these things are being brought to light but, as I've implied before, the Leveson enquiry and its myriad successors will rumble on for decades if not centuries because this kind of thing is what goes on at all levels and on all scales almost everywhere and the sooner that we all recognise (though not accept) this the better - and when I exclude acceptance I mean that the kinds of enquiry that we now have must go on and on and on, because they'll need to, as there'll always be plenty of material to keep them going. If that fact might risk upsetting the Mr Pees of this world, then so be it - but don't blame me!...

At last, some perspective. Given the choice between the Met pursuing phone hackers or terrorists, I am glad they made the right decision.

I believe in the trade known asa variant on the 'Think of the children' algorithm - has been used to 'justify' nearly every recent abuse of civil rights both here and especially in USA.

So you're happy that they lied about having done it (pursuing phone hackers) properly then, Mr Pee?

                  and I quote

"Invasions of privacy are odious and can be extraordinarily distressing, but to put it bluntly, they don't kill you - terrorists do."

                  eeer should that be

" "Invasions of privacy are odious and can be extraordinarily distressing, but to put it bluntly, they don't kill you - terrorists and the Metropolitan police do (if you look a bit shifty , that is )."

                  You couldn't make it up

"a big boy did it and ran away sir"

This got mention only yesterday in the London part of the News on One - a reporter standing right next to the spot in the Golden Lion car park where I'd parked my bike on Tuesday evening!

Unfortunatley Sky does not give you the full story, Mr Pee (what a surprise ).

Mr Clarke, whose evidence & responses to questioning are very thoughtful and considered, explained at some length that a significant element in his decisiion not to deflect resouces away from anti-terrorism was the stonewalling that he got from News International - they proved to be totally unco-operative but of course he had had to waste valuable time to discover this.

And remember too that, as Sue Akers revealed earlier this week, the bulk of the information glenad from the phone-hacking exercises was 'salacious gossip'.

So in effect the Met was wasting time that would otherwise have been used on its anti-terrorism efforts because of News International's desire to prortect its souces of 'salacious gossip'.

What a fine organisation NI is

I am uneasy about Dick defending Yates ..., the latter so unconvincing.
