It is a phrase SC purloined from myself, though, of course, attribution came there none.

I'd vote for commercial ad breaks within television programmes

In between programmes is just about bearable (i understand the need to pay the rent ) and some of the ads are very creative but really they do give me the screaming hab-dabs within the body of a programme

I agree; it was at its worst when C4 broadcast Sawallisch's Ring Cycle in the early '90s - the Music as the gods grow old after the giants had taken Fricka segue-ing into "You can't fit quicker than a Kwik-Fit fitter" recurrs in my nightmares!

In the same vein (and a more "modern" annoyance) - the "Next Time" spoilers at the end of episodes in serials before the end-credits run! So character just seen in peril of his/her life is immediately followed by a shot of him/her in the pub laughing!

I understand that it has required quite a bit of joined up thinking to make sure that, in the middle of Broadchurch (featuring an ill-shaven morose David Tennant) those ads where a bright well-shaven David Tennant cheerfully advertises Virgin media's services...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Funnily enough Throppers, having (yes, I know, oh, I know) purchased the Radio Times (call me an innocent naif if you must!) I circled this programme as a 'Must Watch'
On March 25 2013, Britain's 300,000-strong Jewish community will start their celebrations for Passover, the best-loved holiday in their festival calendar. To mark this, Giles Coren helps host a special seder, with guests including philosopher Alain de Botton
I am hoping for his Chicken soup recipe!!

That abomination of a food critic, Giles 'smug' Coren AND the Lobotomeister in one programme?!

Here's my take on Alain's Chicken Soup for the (R) Soul recipe:

                      1. Take one large chunk of cod-philosophy
                      2. Add several anodyne aperçus
                      3. Let it simmer and do plenty of navel-gazing (top tip: the Greeks called this 'omphaloskepsis'!)
                      4. Serve it up in a book and retail for £9.99

Exactly!! That's why I circled in the RT for a Must View!
                        I think, was I being Post-Ironic or something? .....

Irony is becoming a minefield. I thought you'd gone for a post-post-ironic joke!
