Room 101 - what single aspect of modern life should be consigned to oblivion?
Is it true that they have a team on hand to deal with your more purple enquiries re taxatation ahinton?
I don't have and indeed never have had any queries of any hue whatsoever on taxatation; in fact I've never heard of it. If it's anything like taxation (although I'm still unclear as to how one would identify the colour of an enquiry about that) - and if I had any queries about that - I would expect to refer them to an accountant, not to a bank.
Coutts do nevertheless have a team on hand 24/7, 365-6 days per year, to deal with any banking or credit card queries that I may have.

Oooooh back in the knife drawer with you, Mr Sharp !!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I knew it! I KNEW IT!!
Purple was the colour it was generally agreed that the stalwart who used to deal with your queries single-handedly used to go by the end of the day, ahinton

How purple? What shade thereof? How "generally"? Agreed by whom and on what grounds? Which "stalwart"? Why only one such at any time? What "queries"? Why only queries rather than other comments? How many queries might you suppose there to have been on a daily basis? and on what evidence do you base any such assumption? Why "single-handedly"? (and, if so, to what extent might that matter in terms of the extent of the alleged resultant purple hue)? How can there be an effective "end of the day" for those providing a 24/7 service?
Obviously, I have not read all the posts, so this might have been covered, but I would nominate the mobile phone for room 101.
A device which could have been used brilliantly for the good of society has been so vastly abused in various ways, that I think that it would be better if they had not been invented.
And, yes! I have got one - and I curse the thing every time I see or hear it!

Just keep it turned off - except when you (rarely in my case) need to use it.
Me too, but rather than mobile phones themselves (used sparingly), I'd give the push to texting. I've never felt the need to use it myself, and it's a pathetic sight to see all those saddos on the train poking about in an apparent trance when they could be listening to a Mozart piano concerto on their MP3 player.
Speaking of which: in the Quiet carriage yesterday, settling down to a double dose of Tippett (courtesy of last week's Ao3) on the Walkman, when in yomps some mindless yobbo yelling into his mobile, oblivious to the signs and the otherwise preternatural quiet of said carriage.

Did anyone remonstrate with him? In my experience of Quiet coaches people usually do.
