Did anyone hear the Radio 4 documentary about Lutoslawski and Panufnik in wartime Poland? They played (and survived) as a piano duo before they made a name for themselves as composers. A very informative programme...not for the specialist musician, perhaps...but another welcome example of Radio 4's coverage of musical subjects.

So. Lord Patten, on the one network of classical music on national public non-commercial radio, we cut DOWN on explaining / discussing / contextualising music for the new and hungry audience you wish to attract? Hmm. Don't quite see the logic there, but.............
Thus R3 slips ever nearer to being simple musical wallpaper.

It seems only a few months ago we were hurrah-ing about having more live music. It's a bit like the NHS or Education...always mucking about with the system.some reductions to live musicComment
