    When one irrelevance defends another....

When one irrelevance defends another, do they both become more, or less irrelevant?

Eh, the Royal Family are VERY relevant today. Their presence is one thing that preserves our democracy, our 'constitution' if you call it that, and the whole family work very hard representing various organisations and charities - with one of them as a 'chamapion' these organisations surely have to strive to succeed.

Not necessarily but when one set of values is constantly at odds with another, it is clear that everyone involved should have taken up boxing at an early age.

if only the monarchy was an irrelevance. Sadly it is used to hold together a system based on inherited wealth and privilege that runs our society, and does very nicely out of it.

As for the C of E, it performs similar functions. if it can play a part in holding back rampant materialism, then so much the better. But I am afraid that is a battle probably long since lost.

work very hard ? what really? what real hard work? Like working in a supermarket, or driving a bus, or working on a trawler, or teaching, or mining, or.....or.

What they do isn't really hard work , is it? its subsidised hols and days out.
and as for he "duty " thing, don't make me larf !! I don't see many of the royals swapping their "duty" for the doubtful privilege of, say, taking on a regular job and a mortgage the size of Jupiter.

2 people working in a household, to pay a £200k mortgage to keep a basic roof over your head. that's "duty".thats how life is for some of the better off, yes the BETTER off, in our society. And we pay to keep the people at the top in their palaces.
              Absolute madness.

Oh, and what exactly is democratic about inheriting the position of head of state?

Good trolling! Nobody except those driven by spite, envy and/or some irrational idea that everybody can somehow be "equal" and who of course already read Socialist Worker will take a blind bit of notice, but at least whilst you're posting on here you aren't doing any real damage elsewhere.

Keep it up! I'll happily keep popping and and feeding you.

Well of course she supports it, it's a major part of her job description, innit.

And, thinking about it, is she much of a Defender of the Faith if she's allowed it to get to this pretty pass?

Good sign when the majority share-holder feels she has to speak up

But being "almost sorry" is being not sorry at all. Do wake up a the back there. it may be half-term but that's no excuse for slacking.

The trouble is, Bryn, that as S dives quickly in and out of different threads flicking us with his unsubstantiated witty little barbs he mixes his meanings, matter and metaphors. All too often it ends up sounding like he's trying to say things like "The quick brown troll hides under the rickety bridge".
