Quite a few of the discs in my Verdi box are,I have to say, still unlistened to........

Anyway, My Barbirolli Sibelius box turned up.

All good on the practical side of things, so, what with fixing the Dyson already this week, I'm tempted to get the O.U. BSc Mechanical Engineering brochure ordered up.......

Oh yes, the Finlandia sounded excellent.......
JB's Pohjola's Daughter is an absolute cracker! Talking of the price of the EMI box above are you trying to make ferney verde with envy?

        A handsome box set, Maria Callas 'Live', remastered recordings, 1949-1964;
        42CD set + 3 Maria Callas in Concert; Paris 1958, Hamburg 1959 & 1962 &
London 1962 & 1964, Blu-Ray discs. Tested La Traviata for sound quality and listened with growing pleasure. My only caveat is that the 200+page booklet, lavishly
illustrated but with miniscule print. However, I do have the 1988 hardback edition of
John Ardoin's, Callas at Juilliard, The Master Classes, as an alternative guide. Now look forward
to many listening sessions in the months to come, usually with that little something extra -
        the tingle factor!

Did you pick up a cheap copy? That book is known to be pricey!

... I got an ex-library copy for some £20. All the other copies I looked at on-line were indeed at eye-watering prices.

Looking forward to getting the Bacewicz String quartets as a 'hand me down' from a friend who received them as his 'free gift' for taking out a Gramophone subscription; he's pleased to have been able to have heard them, but doesn't think he wants to keep them in his collection, so they might be heading my way instead of to the charity shop.

I fancied taking a punt on John Pickard's Fifth. Three sets of timpani not exactly a deterrent for this listener and the presence of Mr Brabbins at the helm more or less sealed the deal.

The new Dvorak cd from the Paavel Haas Quartet on Supraphone. I think they're an outstanding group and I much enjoyed what I heard on Record Review last week when Andrew played a snippet.

Also, the new Schubert Trout Quintet from Anne-Sophie Mutter and her backing group. This is for Mrs P.G for Christmas since it's one of her favourite works as is Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet played by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Semyon Bychkov.

                      Hopefully, these will arrive soon.

I bought that in June on a Hi-Res download from eClassical. Not got my ears around it properly, yet.

Be interested to hear your thoughts, Alison.

Or Beefy's, when he can be bothered to listen to it.

I was waiting for that silly price Richter box, but it arrived this morning.
At least it was here when I got home from my hols.

Edit : I have no idea why my quote of Alison's post picked up Pulcers' post as well.

Nor have I - did you mean to reply with it at some point and then changed your mind? (Just look at Pulcie's post - is there a tick in the grey band at the bottom right? If not, it's probably just the Russian mafia hacking into your computer to steal all you data and money. Nothing to worry about.)

Odd isn't it ? I can only think I made a glancing contact with Pulcers' post , and somehow included it. I'm pretty certain there wasn't some abandoned reply lurking on my hard drive. And no grey band tick either.
Very much in "he couldn't do that again if he tried" territory !

As for the russian mafia, if they get in , they can have my overdraft with pleasure.
