In my green wheelie bin when I got back this evening (highly apposite, given the score's chequered history). Not had time to listen yet but I have ripped the opening track and checked its spectrum. Not even the slightest hint of a 19kHz peak, which bodes well. Apart from in the car, I will not have a chance to listen until Friday evening.

Strange presentation of the 3 CDs. The overall thickness of the jewel case is that of a standerd single disc one. There is a hinged tray with a hub on each side and the third hub is integral to the back, as in a slim jewel case. The comprehensive booklet is separate and the both triple jewel case and booklet are housed in a card slip-case.

Ooh.. watch out, you're in for a few shocks...

If you can bear to look before it comes, AA's very balanced (don't worry, very positive too!) review is in Gramophone for 10/98... I don't agree with his comments about the 5th (I loved it), I only have mixed feelings about No.3, but for different reasons...!

You can't link to the archive itself (members only, sir ) but you'll probably find it with a sharp tag in Google..."Andrew Achenbach, OCT 98 or similar etc..."

This bargain box of Hanns Eisler http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hanns-Eisler...eywords=eisler

Not expensive at Amazon's price but surely an absolute steal on Marketplace new at £14.50 + P&P for 10 CDs. I share the reviewer's belief that Eisler is a grossly underrated great composer, for all sizes of composition from song miniatures to the part-vocal Deutsche Symphonie. I'm looking forward especially to finding out what the box contains of Gisela May. She is quite a cabaret singer in a very wide repertoire, but particularly treasurable IMHO in Brecht settings by Weill, Eisler and others.

I happened to snap up this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Die-May-Gise...rds=Gisela+may at a vastly lower price than £95 thanks to a steer from someone on the forum I think
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Paavo Berglund's 1972 cycle of Sibelius's cycle with the BSO arrived today, along with the full orchestral score from Dover Publications of Holst's Planets suite.

I'm not, but anybody waiting for this baby?

                        Beefy?

( i am assuming the tax dodgers offer some sort of price drop guarantee.
Pity there isnt a " double the difference if you find it cheaper elsewhere" type deal.)
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Phew, thanks for reassuring me there, Beefy.
                              Small print is so tedious.

Awaiting delivery of Hyperion's set of Tippett piano sonatas & concerto played by Steven Osborne. Loved the all-too-infrequently-performed concerto ever since I heard David Wilde play it live many years ago. I suspect I should also have the Oggie/Colin Davis version as well, but was tempted by acquiring all MT's piano pieces in one hit, and the likelihood that the more modern Osborne/Brabbins would have superior sound. There's an invigorating spring-like quality to much of Tippett's music, e.g that 1st sonata, that I find very appealing.
