Don't mention that one. iirc I got mine as far back as 1975
I only had a few classical albums in '75 - some George Szell conducting Prokofiev and Kodaly, the Tchaikovsky ballet suites, Carmen hilights and an amazing Wagner overtures set that I do not know the band or conductor. I had a massive rock collection though (as many teenagers did)!
I'm contemplating vol 2 of Hyperion's complete Strauss Lieder - it's got the Ophelia songs on it. I've bought the latest - vol 5 - & very much enjoy it, & I heard the Ophelia songs at one of the BBC Scottish SO's post-concert Coda recitals & like them. The CDs are available on the HMV website at rather less than Amazon are selling them at.
I've also recently bought the Stemme/Doming/ Pappano Tristan und Isolde, but not listened to it yet.
Non-musical - I've also just bought the DVD of Sophia Coppola's film about Anselm Kiefer - Over your cities the grass will grow. I saw it last year when it was on cinema release, & was so bowled over (indeed, blown away) by it that I would have been more than happy to sit through it again immediately.
The R Strauss Vol2 has the benefit of the lovely voice of Anne Schwanewilms - I bought the CD some time ago on the strength of her Four Last Songs (Live BBC MM) and other songs with the Halle and Elder. I have not been disappointed.
I had a massive rock collection though (as many teenagers did)!
I used to have a pretty good one too. Especially ones collected while we were on holiday in the Lake District. My father used to get quite annoyed when I tried to tuck them into the boot - he thought they would weigh the car down too much.
Did you find the Shostakovich at some wondrously cheap price Petrushka or are you just flush & carefree at the mo?
One doesn't tend to listen to Shostakovich when flush and carefree, Am51. I got it for £52 from MDT and no doubt someone will tell me now I could have got it from CD's R Us for £2.50.
There have just been so many recommendations on here (and I did have one or two nice wins on the horses).
