Amazon report that it's 'temporarily out of stock' and I wonder if the problems with the CD mentioned by PG have forced the withdrawal of the recording for the time being? Does anyone know?Last edited by Stanfordian; 10-01-16, 21:18.

However MDT seem to have got a fresh supply of it as it was delivered (in my absence) before the New Year. While I have no quarrel about the quality of the performances, the recording (in SACD 5 Channel mode) lets them down, IMV. A bit congested - or maybe it was my ears, post-Hogmanay. The DG Blu-ray Audio version of the Carlos Kleiber 5 & 7 is much more to my taste, albeit 2 channel.

Just arrived today and one for the car journey tomorrow :-
Jennifer Pike in Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and a Midsummer Nights Dream,
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner.
I greatly enjoyed the symphonies in this series.

Yes, I enjoyed their Symphonies and was tempted by this disc as I really like Jenny Pike's playing. However, I've so many recordings of the Mendelssohn which, in itself is not a problem but the Midsummer music has bad associations so I will, reluctantly, pass.
