It will be the unexpectedly high demand, surely. It's a super release. My 2015 Record of the Year. Worth waiting for!

I hope you're right. A month 'temporarily out of stock' does seem rather a long time, though.

I wondered if there was a faulty batch that has deleted stocks in order to fulfill replacements. My disc sounded dreadful before it started skipping so I presume mine wasn't the only one. I'm really keen to hear it.

This was what I meant in my message 524. I'd hoped it might have arrived by Christmas but no such luck. The long delay might be due to both factors mentioned here: the high demand and a faulty batch.

I ordered it from MDT and was then told that it was, "out of stock", just before Christmas. However MDT seem to have got a fresh supply of it as it was delivered (in my absence) before the New Year. While I have no quarrel about the quality of the performances, the recording (in SACD 5 Channel mode) lets them down, IMV. A bit congested - or maybe it was my ears, post-Hogmanay. The DG Blu-ray Audio version of the Carlos Kleiber 5 & 7 is much more to my taste, albeit 2 channel.

The latest edition of Hi-Fi News only gives this recording a 75% rating for recording quality which, by their standards, is quite poor.

Just had an e-mail from Amazon to say 'estimated arrival date: January 19 2016'.

And I do find their reviews very reliable.

Do recordings ever get 100%, Alison? I've been reading this magazine for a bit now and have seen 95%'ers but never 100%.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my friend has just published his first novel. It arrived in the post and I get a mention in the achknowlegments! Will now have to start reading it.
                          Best regards,

Not the classical ones from what I have read.

Just arrived today and one for the car journey tomorrow :-

Jennifer Pike in Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and a Midsummer Nights Dream,

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner.

I greatly enjoyed the symphonies in this series.

                                Thanks for that, Alison.

Yes, I enjoyed their Symphonies and was tempted by this disc as I really like Jenny Pike's playing. However, I've so many recordings of the Mendelssohn which, in itself is not a problem but the Midsummer music has bad associations so I will, reluctantly, pass.
