Just because I thought of it. Gongers has already done it, BTW, so it must be a good plan.

Actually I have a vaguely amusing story about contemporary music and composition techniques......if anybody is interested.....

        Its not very classy though.....

Ok, so a professional music performer of high repute told me that she was engaged to play at a premiere of a composition ,at a large aquarium.

A group of string players were arranged in front of one of the giant glass screens, which had musical staves added. There was no score, and The musicians had to play notes as they saw fit, as the fish/ sharks/lobsters/ whatever moved behind and around the staves. No limits on pitch, rhythm, time limits, very free form, very trendy.
all well and good and very cool.

However, after a while, becuase there was no formal ending to the work, some of the players began to realise that , though the piece had no specific end point, parking in the centre's car park did, and as it began to dawn on them that they could all be stuck there for the night, they began to leave in an unplanned, and increasingly frantic way.
i think they all got out without incurring a nights B and B costs. Somehow a rather appropriate way to finish, though.

i wonder if the "composer "was one of our board chaps?

Thanks Gongers. That has to be it. I knew you'd know !!

I'd like to have heard the piece, especially having read the performance instructions.

I thought most of all recent compositions were done in this way? Or a blank sheet of music and a fountain pen liberally shaken over the staves?

OK, but his Notturno KV286 is for four orchestras.
I knew Stockhausen nicked the idea of Gruppen from somewhere

                          Quite!

"Staves" demonstrates a very traditionalist attitude.

Can one have a "blank sheet of music" anyway?
