There have just been so many recommendations on here (and I did have one or two nice wins on the horses).
I have not been able to find a better price than that a the moment.

You might want to rip and carefully edit out a 'pop' just after the end of the 4th Symphony and burn to a CD-R (unless they have already dealt with it since I got my set a couple or so years ago).

have probably already arrived at my work base, but I will not be able to collect them until tomorrow.
Now retrieved. The Juilliards box has a strange anomaly. The Webern incuded is Op. 5, but the illustration and programme notes for it relate not to Op. 5 but to the Op. 28 Quartet.

course you wouldn't. anyway, i feel a "what did you have in your old rock collection" thread coming on..............

as a side issue, i have never knowingly disposed of any piece of recorded music.
don't think I ever will, even if its junk.
although my sensational good taste means that its mostly top notch stuff in my vinyl/tape/CD collections.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I haven't thrown any cds away, but I should throw 2 away; Bussotti - Rara Requiem Deutsche Grammophon 20th Century Classics; Kagel - Exotica & Tactil Deutsche Grammophon 20 Century Classics.

Don't ask me why I bought them, all I can say is that I was young. Absolute tom-tit.

I also have about 3 Harrison Birtwistle CDs that are complete pony and should be chucked.

Someone start a new thread focusing on what cds people want to chuck.

good lord........a real blast from the past.

Among my worst buys were the first album by "The Shirts" highly rated (probably by their agent), OGWT appearance.......lousy album in blue vinyl.at least i only paid bargain price for it.

The CDs are available on the HMV website at rather less than Amazon are selling them at.
Now ordered from HMV at something like £9.99 & free delivery. I look forward to it arriving early next week

It gets stranger. The Bartok and Schoenberg quartet transfers are illustrated by images of the original LP sleeve designs. The Berg quartets get no illustration, but the Webern Op. 5 pieces are illustrated by the image of the cover of the score of the Op. 28 String Quartet. The audio restoration of CDs 1 - 3 is ascribed to Lani Spahr, and CDs 3 - 6 to Philippe Devereux. Since the first three CDs hold the 6 Bartok quartets and CDs 4 - 6 have the Second Viennese Schools works, my guess is that it is only CDs 4 - 6 which actually owe their audio restoration to Philippe Devereux. Then there's the programme notes themselves. They are all taken, with due acknowledgement, from Wikipedia.

They do sound pretty good though.
