Time to take it easy now, I think. This thread could be another very expensive one!
Did you find the Shostakovich at some wondrously cheap price Petrushka or are you just flush & carefree at the mo?

Good question - a set I've looked into, but found like bambi!

8509002 Debussy - Complete Orchestral Works, and
WHRA6040 Juilliard String Quartet: The Celebrated Early Recordings

have probably already arrived at my work base, but I will not be able to collect them until tomorrow.

Sorry, but they've been rendered suspect on H&S grounds!

I only had a few classical albums in '75 - some George Szell conducting Prokofiev and Kodaly, the Tchaikovsky ballet suites, Carmen hilights and an amazing Wagner overtures set that I do not know the band or conductor. I had a massive rock collection though (as many teenagers did)!

I used to have my cds delivered at work so my wife could not see the full scale of my indulgence.

Don't know why I worried, she only used to waste the money on food and clothes for the children.

I've bought the latest - vol 5 - & very much enjoy it, & I heard the Ophelia songs at one of the BBC Scottish SO's post-concert Coda recitals & like them. The CDs are available on the HMV website at rather less than Amazon are selling them at.

I've also recently bought the Stemme/Doming/ Pappano Tristan und Isolde, but not listened to it yet.

Non-musical - I've also just bought the DVD of Sophia Coppola's film about Anselm Kiefer - Over your cities the grass will grow. I saw it last year when it was on cinema release, & was so bowled over (indeed, blown away) by it that I would have been more than happy to sit through it again immediately.
The R Strauss Vol2 has the benefit of the lovely voice of Anne Schwanewilms - I bought the CD some time ago on the strength of her Four Last Songs (Live BBC MM) and other songs with the Halle and Elder. I have not been disappointed.

I used to have a pretty good one too. Especially ones collected while we were on holiday in the Lake District. My father used to get quite annoyed when I tried to tuck them into the boot - he thought they would weigh the car down too much.

That was presumably in your Rock 'n' Rollover days, did you tell Tchaikovsky?

I've got Glazunov (symphonies, complete), Spohr (Nonet and Octet) Beach (Piano music vol.2) coming to me via the postal service...

One doesn't tend to listen to Shostakovich when flush and carefree, Am51. I got it for £52 from MDT and no doubt someone will tell me now I could have got it from CD's R Us for £2.50.

There have just been so many recommendations on here (and I did have one or two nice wins on the horses).
