Dear All,
I am sure that I am just an old Curmudgeon, but I do not like the new Radio 3 presentation style.
What does everyone else think?
I understand that R3 needs more listeners if it is to survive and that Senior Management has decided that dumbing down is the way to get them but is making it more like Classic FM really the right way to go?
I want more music not more talk. I am not interested in the personality or domestic arrangements of the presenters, indeed, I prefer it if the all sound the same. I do not think it is edgy and relevant for the presenters to wind up the guests, I think it is a pain. Similarly I am not much interested in the lives of the performers, what I want is to hear them perform.
I was wondering if it might be possible to use social networking tools for all this new stuff and keep the airwaves for music. If the presenters have been to a night-club with the performers then why not make a web-page about it and refer the listeners to it – you could have pictures too? Don’t waste valuable air time blathering about it.
How about a rule of thumb that there should be no more than 15 seconds talk between the music?
One of the glories of R3 in the “old days” was the way that it was not afraid of silence, if there was nothing to say then nothing was said.
All these gushing “14-going-on-40” female presenters are really driving me nuts.
Eric
