No: as I said in post no 4: The key argument is whether putting consumer pressure on Apple would induce the company to change its sourcing policy, and as industry leader cause a ripple effect in others' policy.

Any evidence for this, Mr Pee?

        Very complex arguments around this.........
however, if I need putting off buying apple products, after checking their prices, I just need to glance into the apple store in Southampton.

Its always by far the busiest store in the city centre......and this immediately makes me suspicious !!
Irrational maybe, but that's how I feel .

          Yup.

Chinese workers remain among the lowest paid in the world. The average total labor compensation for a Chinese manufacturing worker is 57 cents per hour, with many making far less than that, benefits included.

An average Chinese wage of $0.57 per hour -- or $104 per month -- is about 3 percent of the average U.S. manufacturing worker's wage, according to data collected by Banister.

Having read it, I think a more general boycott of all Chinese products covered by this article (unspecified unfortunately) is urgently called for. These people are being fiercely exploited at every level

But it's not just about money. It's also about working conditions. The New York Times reveals that workers at Foxconn, the Apple supplier in China, have been asked to sign agreements that they won't commit suicide...

That sounds surprising like: "Let them eat cake".

I suppose there is undoubtedly an established connection between Cricket and Boycott, Ams ...

You're probably a bit like me ... in these austere times you can't afford such a thing as a Mac or Ipad, anyway ...

Apple currently has about $98bn in cash holdings, held mostly offshore. That's more than the GDPs of several countries combined.

It won't bring this into the US for research & development purposes (as it claims it would like to) because it was earned overseas, and would therefore be subject to the massive US govt. tax of 35% on overseas profits. I'm with Apple on this - though probably for a different reason - because we all know what the US govt. likes spending tax dollars on: wars and making big government even bigger ... while the proletariat don't share in the spoils to the extent that they should.

Spot on, scotty - the thing about being relatively poor is that there is clarity about choosing what not to spend your money on that is quite life-enhancing

Basically, if expenditure item A doesn't put a meal on a plate, then it has to go before the Standing Committee on Non-Essential Priorities

The only time I've had an Apple product was in my last job when we all had Apple Imacs - jolly pretty and easy to use they were too, and I liked the way when if anything went wrong, you just pulled the plug out of the back, counted to 30 and then put it back in

I'm an unashamed Apple user. Switched a few years ago.

After trying several methods of streaming music into the AV system I finally found that an Apple TV2 works perfectly. HDMI lead goes into the TV, digital out goes into the amp. Probably the best £99 I ever spent.

Sounds as if you would know exactly what to do with a Sky box. That trick always works!

I went into Kitchens () to get one of those cooking tins with the removable bottom and asked why the non-stick one was cheaper than the tin one, or rather, what was the difference. The assistant said, well, he preferred the tin one, and the tin one was made in France and the non-stick one was made in China - if that made a difference. I said it did and bought the tin one. I would have guessed that he was a Hong Konger ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
