    Scandalous!

It's not often that an article in the Daily Mail is of interest to many of us, but this one caught my eye today...a very sad state of affairs for historical musical instruments.

Spanning centuries and continents, the instruments worth at least $25 million by their chief caretaker's estimate are packed and stacked in an out-of-the-way storage room with water-stained ceilings

Use the link at the bottom of the error report page that you do get to from micky's link. That worked for me.

As the article suggests, there must be many such languishing collections. Passing maybe from sublime to ridiculous, one could almost include vintage shellac, of which I inherited a good collection of 10" 78s of WW2 pop tunes no one seems prepared to take off me.

Serial_Apologist (#5) have you considered contacting the British Library Sound Archive to find a home for your 78s? I know nothing of them, except that they exist, but contact details are on www.bl.uk and click on 'About the British Library Sound Archive' Then scroll down to the list of options and click on 'Popular Music'. You will see that "The Sound Archive aims to collect copies of all commercial releases in the UK." They have "hundreds of thousands of 78s" (phew, must be a big living room). I doubt they'll pay any money, but if you just want a good home for the discs, they might be interested.
