    Saturday pre BAL

What the heck is going on NOW???

Bloomin' chat, chat, chat, interviews, and twittering bilge from that self-regarding woman Clemency Whatever. Who does she think she is?

I never listen to Radio 3 on a Saturday pre-9.00 a.m. A good opportunity for a lie-in. I listen to Radio 3 less and less at this time on other days. It's so depressingly awful, though it gradually improves as the day progresses (for the time being).

      Yes please.

Clemency seems to think it's ok not to announce properly what an item is before and after. The extract from Fountains of Rome was never clearly identified - but we had to be told that some twit enjoyed starting his birthday with the first item. I had to turn it off - it was insufferable.

i often resort to "Sounds of the sixties" on R2 on sat AM.

At least Brian Matthew knows what he is talking about.

R3 needs nepotism like it needs a hole in the head.

yes he is exactly 200, as it happens. He is a fine example to us all. Just shows what you can achieve with a lifestyle based on 60's beats and organic fruit and veg.

Well, I usually like to ease in with 30 minutes or so of Handley's less-is-more style before AMcG launches into his usually overblown Cd-reviewers platitudes - eg this a.m. 'heart-warmingly' etc. But I've never heard an early Sat a.m. interview, and she went on and on and on twittering about nothing whatever and playing precious little music.

BTW, am I missing something - how is she an example pf nepotism?

And while I am on a rant, why, in the midst of CDR do we get an advert for a totally but totally non-musical prog on R4. including the Voice of Blair? Talk about insensitivity to the channel's natural content!

She's the daughter of Humphrey Burton, hence the, in my view misplaced, nepotism charge. But then, as the 'twit' whose birthday it is today, perhaps I would say that...

Did you really have a "request" read out on breakfast, IGI???

                      Many happy returns nonetheless!!!

I'd never heard of Clemency B-H till vinteuil included her in a question on the Alphabet Assoc thread. Apparently she's a violinist as well as being the daughter of the High Priest of witterers, Humphrey Burton. He was (is?) energetic in getting quality music on TV I suppose, to give him his due. Always made my flesh creep slightly though.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No, not a request. Clemency and I exchange messages on Twitter and seeing that the Haydn 'Surprise' which opened the programme was going to be the Marc Minkowski recording - which I reviewed for IRR a couple of years ago and has an interesting 'take' on the surprise element of the second movement - I made reference to the fact that it could give some listeners a 'real' surprise. I also mentioned in passing it was a significant day...

                        Cheers!
