      £60 actually...

I completely agree about the cyclists, and the middle lane hogging drivers

I find lane discipline at its worst on the M60 between Stockport and Trafford Park.

and do you agree with panjandrum that such drivers are "committing an offence" (his words not mine) ?

Soon after commencing her act began the heckling and then the barracking. Before long the whole place was in uproar. Above all the noise, an even louder male voice at the back of the auditorium was heard to bellow, "GIVE THE COW A CHANCE!!!" Silence followed, and, "Thank you kind sir. I'm glad to see that there's ONE gentleman in the audience", replied Marie Lloyd.

but I guess as ALL cyclists are so morally superior to the rest of us then they have the right to ignore basic rules of self preservation

ANYONE over the age of 6 riding a bike on the pavement is further evidence
The worst of it is that cyclists do not have to have insurance (though some do have it) and they're not required to hold a valid full drivers' licence, which some do but which they all should - furthermore, even those cyclists who do hold valid full drivers' licences can neither lose them nor acquire penalty points on them, however serious the driving offence when using their cycles might be.

That was for the benefit of the a***hole tailgating me on the conveyor belt at Sainsbury's. I'd not even got half my trolley unpacked when he was already unloading his.

Still, I did make sure to have a nice, LONG chat with the checkout assistant.

                  Cyclists on a motorway?

Mercia, no wonder you seem confused about motorway driving, speed limits etc! Are you sure you don't drive against the traffic flow as well?

In fact, I'm beginning to be worried about you having a licence at all!

When traffic is bunching (M6 South approaching Sandbach is particularly horrendous whatever time of day) there is no option but to undertake, any attempt to change lane and overtake is downright dangerous. Middle lane hogging is just lazy driving with no consideration or awareness of others. Rather like some trolley drivers in supermarkets who are totally oblivious that they are blocking the aisles and inhibiting free flow!

Yes, precisely the situation addressed as an exception in the Highway Code quoted twice by Panny above.

To leave motorways and driving for the moment and going back to the beginning of this thread and the annoyance of fast rolling credits, television, etc. I try not to watch too much commercial tv as the adverts (particularly interrupting films) annoy me.

I, and many other viewers, were becomingly increasingly irritated by the length of the Aviva ads in Downton Abbey increasing as the episode progressed (and they got slapped wrists from Ofcom over this) so much so that I refused to watch the Christmas Special as it would be spoiled by the ads. My household insurance has been with Aviva for some years. It was due for renewal at the end of this month. I took great pleasure in phoning the Aviva and saying I would not be renewing for this reason. They immediately offered me £30 off the premium but I replied that I was in correspondence with those nice Meerkats! Only a small and rather silly gesture but it made me feel better for doing it!

Well done! They're making my young nephew redundant in the summer - even though the company is making billions. Oh, millions? I dunno, but they're making him redundant anyway by closing down the entire Bristol operation.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I recently removed part of my pension arrangements from their tender clutches. Rather glad now, sorry to hear about your nephew... and I wish I could have done it with your flourish, Anna

I imagine that, in this particular instance, mercia is referring to motorcyclists rather than unmotorised bicyclists - a thought that had presumably not occurred to you...

                                >>When traffic is bunching (M6 South

It's quite extraordinary isn't it. In December I returned from Manchester to N Staffs via the M6 at a stroll ( 45ish ) on the inside lane which I had virtually all to myself.
The middle and outside lanes were more or less a car park for over 10 miles. Driver behaviour is truly bizarre.

And I wonder how many drivers are ever stopped for being a fixture in the middle lane ( with their bloody fog lights on )

Re: Aviva - they are one THE big players in the decline of civilisation

                                PS
I think 99% of all other drivers should have their proficiency re-tested.
