Henry Hudson, surely. George was the Railway King.

And with that, I disappear to search for free wi-fi in and around Marble Arch.

      ADB

      Oh, #3: 40 years later or precisely 32 ?

        Mercia was right about 2.

As for 3. - no, not 32 years. Not exactly 40 either - maybe 41 or 42 years, depending on which reference work you look at.

Marble Arch? Why you're about 1 mile east of me! If you shout the answer I might hear it

I thought you were coming to London later today - were you here yesterday for all the matrimonial shennanigans?

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Lake Mead was named after Elwood Mead who was 78 by the time the lake was formed by the building of the Hoover Dam (I think)

There's a slight trick aspect to Part 1....

            Think about it slightly differently.

Two to you, Mr M. Now can you start to join the dots?

I've been skirting round the G word because I didn't really want to set the next question

he (Ferde) wrote an Ode to the Star Spangled Banner but I'm not sure what the other work alluded to is

Well you are there, but it's not the Star-Spangled Banner.

Oh come on Mr M - set a nice question. You have time to think of a goodie, no one's in a hurry this bank holiday weekend!

The key to the remaining element has already been an element in a question earlier in this round of the alphabet, i.e. in one of the last 6 answers...

I thought the last element might be Grand Canyon but don't think so after seeing Caliban's clue

OMG the clue has had the reverse effect!!!

You were right!! (the clue referred to "Des Canyons aux Etoiles" from Rubbers's "E" question). Take away the stars and you have - just Canyon... (and a Grand one at that)

So who is going to say the "G" word????

Mercy, mercia! You said it! (Though Diamond Jim is not involved).

                            Well winkled-out

Set us a gentle Saturday afternoon "H"... you know you want to really!

You haven't missed a great deal... The Grand Canyon Suite was the filler on a Gershwin recording I used to have. Not great, to my ears anyway...
