OK, I admit I'm struggling with the first but I reckon the second refers to our favourite group, featuring ol' crazy diamond himself, The Gnome from Piper.

The third is not Wagner (I was originally thinking about Mime from Siegfried) but is in fact Caliban's favourite composer , and the second of his two concert etudes called Gnomenreigen (Dance of the Gnomes) the first companion piece being Waldesrauschen (Forest Murmurs)

Sorry I can't do a clean sweep... (if I'm right?)

Oh dear, Hercule. Do you mean to say you missed all our various thread digressions on Pink Floyd? It seems everyone participating in Alphabet Associations (and a few who don't) are closet Floydies. Piper at the Gates of Dawn, their first album featuring Syd Barrett, is many people's favourite...

Go on, give us a clue for the first, then...

        EDIT: ok, you have

A propos Mr R I could do with some help on the "music you switched off" thread - I'm fighting a single handed battle against Lizstophiles polite and less polite. I seem to recall you think Liszt was responsible for more than his fair share of stinkers... I need back up!!!!

Oh well... I played the Tamas Vasary card, that seems to have made them back off

Time to drop your H, rubbers...

(how do you rate my question, out of 10?)
Well, the use of 'shocking' was a bit of a giveaway, but not bad, Hercule.

I now need to get lycra-ed up for the cycle home, so will be unable to provide an H until probably about 11pm this evening. Amuse yourselves in the interim

Good luck, lycranecker. Yes I got to the Floyd from "shocking" but dwelt too long on Gilmour...

As far as I am concerned that was an 8 or 9 in the question stakes - obscure enough to demand thought but straightforward enough to be gettable with a bit of concentration and lateral thinking

What H is shared by a German conductor/keyboardist, an American violinist and a naturalised French musician?
