    Only asking!

Quite right to ask. Yes there is. You're after a composer. There are four elements to the puzzle in fact, each involving a piece of music.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The references are to an opera, a symphony and two films scores respectively, by the composer in question...

George Antheil wrote the music to the film Dementia. He be the one?

One of those composers who suffers from "one famous work" syndrome I guess.

He wrote an opera Volpone 1953 to mixed reviews,[46] and music for a film called The Pride and the Passion.

              Symphony nr 6 After Delacroix.

Thanks for this Caliban, I really should listen to some more of his music!

I'll have a little snooze on the B (bees do you know sometimes, on flowers ), but I'll come up with something tomorrow.

Plus the film Dementia which you mentioned before, makes up the full house

I am well thank you Caliban. My parents at the moment are taking up a lot of my time, no live concerts alas, but I have been able to catch up on listening to most of the Proms.

A B! A Beautiful night, perhaps it's midnight in Paris or time for a stroll through Venetian passageways?

We've not done awfully well at this, have we...?!

The whirl of controversy that was 'the Proms' now subsiding, time for the thinking cap again.

Swift first thought: Barcarolle? Venetian passages of music... is there a Barcarolle setting words about a Bella Notte or similar? And Offenbach provides a Parisien connection...

But I've a feeling it's not that easy...

I was flirting with Bizet, if you get my meaning, but I would guess scarily wrong......

Oh, good call, Cali - the Offenbach itself has a "beautiful night" association ("Ah, belle nuit, belle nuit d'Amore")

And, as it's edjog, is Henze involved, meponders ... ?

Gosh AA lives! I was a few days without internet as well.

                                Caliban, Barcarolle is correct!

The beautiful night refers to the the Barcarolle in Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman "Belle nuit, รด nuit d'amour" as opposed to the original Elves' song in Die Rheinnixen.

The Barcarolle pops up at midnight in Paris and in another Venetian Passage.........
