Bygger! I always forget the downside!

    Very well, then:

A W to connect symphonic Bizet; orchestral hammering; and buffets and rewards.

      ferney,

might the answer be a tri-syllabic Germanic surname? I am wrestling with something currently...

Sorry guys and gals (can I even SAY that anymore post-Savile?),

Felix Weingartner - 1st performer of Bizet's Symphony in C, err..., something else and the other thing.

I'm not sure I deserve the next go; I can only get two of the three, the second one I have now forgotten

Wiki tells me that Weingartner made an orchestration o Beethoven's Hammerklavier piano sonata.

Oh, I know! The number of times I've had to stop myself saying "Now then, now then"!

Close enough for me! - the Weingartner Hammerklavier orchestration that hedgehog reminded you about. Memories come into Buffets and Rewards, too, by the way - but nothing to do with Elaine Paige!

I'm not sure I deserve the next go; I can only get two of the three, the second one I have now forgotten
Well, it's either you, hedgehog or me, so ...

Not sure I for one could cope with question setting at his late stage of tonight, quite apart from the regulations of the game in hand... That's all my earlier bravado for me now!

Well, we can shut down for the night and use the Buffet/Reward thingy as "decider" tomorrow - hedgy, perhaps? (Although she, too, has set a recent puzzle, so might not wish to contribute another quite so soon. On the other hand ... )

Fine by me, ferney, to park up for the night, though if you, hedgehog and/or others wish to continue, please do! I'm more than happy for someone to set an xyz or a. Also I would not wish to hold up the thread with my irregularities of attendance.

Kind soul that I am I shall polish off the coleslaw before it goes off: Buffets and Rewards is the (translated?) title of a book of musical reminiscences by Felix Weingartner.

I don't mind setting a question, though all honours are due to Tapiola - but it'll be mid-morning (done quite a few xyz's it may well be an A, but I'll see what the old grey cells come up with ............)
