Let's put the Beefster out of our misery.

The link is Ligeti, the N is Mr Nancarrow - he was interned at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurs_internment_camp and got the hell out to Mexico, and Ligeti thought he was the mutt's nuts...

Oh BRAVO Cali ... and ami! I was trying to find a link between Messiaen and Ligeti ... and Cage after the extra clue. No doubt steered into a well-placed trap!

                      Happy New AAs, Everyone!

... and, before you ask, BeefO; yes, including you!

Purcell wrote perhaps the first opera Oedipus. Stravinsky wrote Oedipus Rex. Ingres painted Oedipus and the Sphinx.

                            So ... it's Oedipus, I hope

Your New Year hopes have already come true! Yes - Oedipus, for the precise reasons you say (save that was Purcell's music incidental rather than operatic? too early to look it up... ).

Prosit Neujahr ammy - give us something that one hopes won't be Frankly Wörsethan-Most
