... completely off the point - but - not many people know that the first English translation of 'Port-Tarascon' was done by Henry James, no less...

I just headed here too, mercia, flushed with success at answering the 'Covert' question by some google-based detective work. Reminded me I have neglected AA today...

"Fucik" doesn't leave one much wriggle-room for Richard and Johan, does it though... puzzling, this one!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Isn't it an 'E' we're looking for, not an 'F'?

Mention of Fucik reminds me of an unfortunate bit of programming in a Halle Pops concert a few years back. The Entry of the Gladiators was followed by the opening chorus of Carmina Burana. The composer listing:

                              Fucik
                              Orff

true, I should imagine we have to find three composers [Johan, Julius, Richard] who each wrote a work which shares a title [beginning with E]

                                Johan Svendsen ?
