Surely 'Northo' in 22288 should read 'mercia' (or 'mercs')?

      It should indeed!!

Apologies mercia!! Morning rushing around, I saw Northo's post about the Berlin Phil and thought he was following up his own post with the answer! How embarrassing.

      Great work, Mercs!!

So who's next? Northender, are you inclined to take the Caliban-inspired pass from mercia?

Well, I'm quite happy to think up a question, although I contributed very little to the previous answer.

            A 'U' that links:
            - an English composer who had strong associations with Ireland
            - an English composer who studied for 2 years in Berlin
            - an English collector who spent nearly 10 years in Australia.

              It's a trend, Norths - carpe diem

Is the U in question a forename or a surname or ....?

Without giving too much away at this stage ...it's not a person or a musical work.

apparently folksong collector Cecil Sharp spent 10 years in Australia
ah - an educational question I think
Vaughan Williams was an incorrect choice

He may well have been, but the chap I have in mind arrived in Berlin the year Wagner died.
I note with interest the word 'educational' in an earlier posting, which suggests to me that you may well be on the right track. Cecil Sharp is the collector.
