Keep it going, Mercia. (That's two of the four of the three )
Phew.. whirlwind pace here, since I was on last night!
A question: how was mercia's "Heart of Darkness" two 'D"s?

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

brilliant, full marks, actually I had Skaters' Waltz Emile Waldteufel, but what the heck
Even with two picture clues I am lost at sea! Flay obviously has an idea (although I gain no clues from his picture I trust his superior knowledge in all things!) I was looking at Plato of course but got nowhere, the only F I came up with was Francis Bacon's 1627 essay The New Atlantis or an explorer called Fawcett who it is said discovered it but then he also disappeared! So far nothing musical rings a bell and there are several Cow Islands ....... Knowing Lat's interests I wonder if it's something to do with World Music?
