Franco of Cologne developed a new musical notation based on the principle that each shape of note should represent a fixed duration.

Gruppen fur 3 Orchester by Stockhausen was first performed in Cologne.

The Joseph Haydn Institut in Cologne is producing a complete catalogue and urtext edition of Haydn's works.

Main honours, I think, to mercia, who is invited to lead us to somewhere beginning with D.

I guess we owe Franco everything then really, or would we have achieved modern notation without him, I wonder

        great question

anyway, I'm a long way off inventing a D question, if anyone else has one at their fingertips?

Oh I see... had to do some digging to find why the Copland was linked with Dumbarton.

Is F.H.Geliebte Esq in the building, planning an E, by gum?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Well with your being called Ferneyhough it's going to be Stockhausen and Reich. Walt Disney's corpse is said to have been cryogenically preserved.

But the connections? Eee by gum. You've got me completely foxed.

In 1958, Dumbarton Oaks commissioned Aaron Copland to compose Nonet for Solo Strings (generally known as Nonet for Strings) in honor of the Blisses’ fiftieth wedding anniversary.

I can find a link between Steve Reich and Walt Whitman, but I cannot link it to Stockhausen.

Not really "literary": SCB gets it in #10275

The Stockhausen element could've said "rooms".
