To recap and to encourage mercia to finish this poor lickle blighter off, I'll confirm that the clue should read...

What E connects Macbeth, Don Quixote, Daniel Defoe and Spike Milligan?

I think I can do this... John Eccles wrote music for productions of Macbeth and Don Quixote in the 1690s, his dad Solomon crops up in Defoe's 'Journal of the Plague Year'... and Spike of course played Eccles in The Goons...

          Bluebottle: Pssst!
          Eccles: What?
          Bluebottle: Pssst!
          Eccles: I haven't touched a drop!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Prompted by the fact that I shall be going orf-line shortly, and not wishing to let the momentum drop, may I be everso previous and not await Ammy's blessing to give the following F?

What connects a Dream, the song of some grateful Shepherds, a Russian teenager and Autumn?

I reckon it's Felix - Felix Mendelssohn's Incidental Music to A Misummer's Night Dream, Autumn a painting by Felix Mas, your grateful shepherds & Russian teen I'm a bit adrift on - anyone else? How'm I doing Caliban ol'buddy, ol' pal?

No, Felix has nothing to do with it I'm afraid !

Oh, it's not summick silly like F major? F Major, Op. 68 Pastoral Shepherds song. Happy and grateful feelings after the storm and, A Dream from Les Miserables, that's in F major innit after an E flat? (Caliban did once a puzzle about E in which the answer was - E!!!)

I'm going to watch a programme on BBC4 about Sid Child (who he?) who evidently, according to Julian Clary, invented camp!! Sounds intriguing. No doubt when it's over the puzzle will be solved.

Yes to the Pastoral and specifically the last movement entitled as you say. But not that dream. And what about the teenager and the season?

I see it's repeated in the early hours... I'll set it to record. Troll back and tell us what it's like, heart-face, and claim your "G"
