Spot on, fhg! (I was thinking of alla ungarese - Piano Trio No. 25 - for the Haydn, but that's a very minor detail). I'm sure tomorrow morning will be soon enough for your 'B'.

with nothing better to do, I'm wondering if you are in fact both talking about the same trio, number 39, Hoboken 15/25, the Gypsy.

Haydn's string quartet Op. 20 no. 4 has a movement marked 'alla zingarese', as does Brahms's piano quartet Op. 25. You could say it's alla little confusing!

I think we were: Haydn inscribed the Gypsy Rondo as alla ungarese. I was sure it was alla zingharese and Wiki "confirmed" this!

            Ho hum: life's a B sometimes! Sooo -

            A B to connect
            An inventor with Andrex attributes
            A twelve-tone practical musician
All the right notes but not necessarily in the right order

The same word, but with some "translation" involved.

                  Well...
Eric Morecambe's 'real' name was Bartholomew
Bartolomeo Cristofori invented what you might call an '8 + 4' spinet?
                  Still thinking about the Andrex

Ah! Bart Cristofori is the "Andrex" connection! (The power of advertising: I'm going back to the late '70s!)

No, the missing element is much older: I should've put him first on the list. Without him (and similar-minded people) Cristoferi would've had to stick to making stringed instruments.
