      Time for a clue, s.v.p. scb? I can't extract anything from this, and doesn't seem as if anyone else can

        Ditto. I got as far as Handel, Ovid & Shakespeare without getting anywhere!

                  Ave Maris Stella, Hercules Dux Ferrariae and Faisant regretz are all masses by Josquin. I presume that all three use parody techniques (i.e. use of pre-existing melodies, motives etc.).

                    Oh well played Taps!

                    It all falls into place. Neat question

                        ... that was such an elegant question! And I am kicking myself, because when pondering it, I thought that the word 'regrets' wd be sure to have significance... Which of course it did... And me, who know Ferrara and like to think I know Josquin! All congratulations to the Tapiola...

                          Thank you one and all, and apologies for the delay.

                          A K, please, to link:

                          A flute solo which caused the ruination of a band;
                          A laptop;
                          A song by a (different) 80s band with indirect connections to Les Six?

                            Flutes and bands makes me think of 'Jethro Tull' and Ian Anderson (and the time he was my landlord on the Isle of Skye... another story...)...

                            Are they relevant at all?

                              Funnily enough, Caliban, I was trying to picture this question from someone else's point of view, and the flute reference made me think of Jethro Tull instantaneously. Unfortunately, neither Tull nor Anderson are relevant.

                              Ian Anderson was your landlord??
