Still totally confused, this is probably my last (totally wrong) stab at it before I lose my sanity.

New Orleans is ile d'Orleans, record label Island Records, danceband Goomaby Dance Band with Island in the Sun and the only Mass I can think of is Ireland in C. although where blind eyes come into anything I don't know.

OK...sorry been out for a while.

The first instance is a record label who specialised in jazz and were then subsequently taken over. Bit of a liberty, if you ask me.

In the second instance, I am thinking of a person who's attributed to the phrase 'turning a blind eye' and the Mass fits in here

Lastly, the third is a dance band who were were prevalent in New Orleans in the early 1920's.

        Time for a mint tea.

Well, Haydn's "Nelson" Mass 'in angustiis', obviously, but not sure where this leads...

YES!!!!!!!!!! taken over by Liberty (which I hinted at in the post above). Nelson's Mass is sometimes referred to as the Imperial. The Imperial Dance Band were fixtures in New Orleans in the 1920's. I dropped two other hints.....you will crown me....Crown Imperial and also have a mint tea.....Mint Imperial.

                Over to Anna for J

Taken over by Capitol Records, possibly explaining bts's 'liberty' quip

EDIT: ah, we're there. Well done Anna. Now what did I do with that axe... Oh, it's still buried in Tapiola's skull

Well, I'm not sure if Vinteuil should have it rather than me, he got the Nelson Mass which put me onto Imperial. Gosh, it was a long convoluted haul wasn't it?

And all of a sudden I feel strangely exhonerated

I don't know what gave me the greater headache: that axe or the clue.

Vinteuil, my avatar is the wonderful Lauren Bacall

OK then, and bearing in mind I'm not crypticall minded (and BtS's was almost as cryptic as Tapiola's blind Norwegian jazzsinger!) Here is a straightfoward one. However, I will be away from the computer for about an hour or more. I fully expect to see it solved when I return!

Which J would remind you of a National emblem, an encounter with an insect and has been commemorated on a postage stamp?

Well ... 'Jumbo' fits. The elephant is an emblem of India, there's the story of the elephant and the flea, and the Jumbo Jet appeared on a postage stamp in the late 1990s. However, there's no musical link there that I can think of.
