Probably claret or chardonnay then.

Well done, Calibs, but fhg's turn for D.
The only other item of trivia I would add is that I remember asking Evelyn Rothwell (Lady B) on a visit to our school to sign my LP copy of Italian Oboe Concertos featuring the Cimarosa. Which she did, graciously, and I still have it.

Which double D was an associate of Berio at Dartington, was responsible for John Peel presenting Top Gear, but is most famous for a piece accredited to another composer?Numquam Satis!

... not sure about "plinky-plonk": "plinky" = "chimes"; "rosa" = "plonk"?
I thought of Cimarosa right away but didn't want the task of another letter so kept quiet. (Easy to say after the event!)
Anyway, I didn't know anything about the plinky thing and was thinking that the buffa would be Il Maestro di Capella.

The driving force (boom! boom!) behind the Radio 1 programme was, I believe, Keith Drummond (which is a kind of double D, I guess)
