The first two offerings feature a contralto, the third a soprano.

Grace Williams: Spring and Fall, The Windhover, Tarentella as featured on the Chandos disc to which Vinty provides the link.

            There! That's better!

(Go on, Norfs: make my day! Tell me I'm wrong! )

NB seems to have missed Calm Sea in Summer from Sea Sketches and All seasons shall be sweet. These give rather more than two seasons.

Seeing as you're right, I'm afraid I can't make your day as requested
Correct in all particulars. Please set an X/Y/Z/A as you see fit.

No - just three Williams to follow Grace.

                    This is:

                    A mythic X shared by
                    Shostakovich in E minor
                    Brahms in C minor
                    Schubert in D major

This is, I think, a question which contains the answer.

All questions contain the answer because, otherwise, what is the point of a question but to reveal the answer which is contained within the question? Dumbledore is at his Mystical Best think?

                            X = Roman numeral for 10:

                            Mythic X: X-files??

Shostakovich Symphony 10 in E minor

Brahms Symphony 1 in C minor (described by Hans von Bulow as "Beethoven's Tenth")

Schubert Symphony 10 in D major (unfinished).

Very good, subby. That sounds far more likely than my attempt - I was looking at mythology and the closest I got was Xenia as in Xenia Jankovic cellist. But nothing would fit.
                              Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Three perfect hits, subby. I'd hoped the Brahms might deter anyone leaping to the correct answer too soon - folorn hope! Oh, and the Schubert is one of Prof Newbould's "completions".

(The mythical aspect I meant to refer to the myth that no great composer had ever lived to complete their Tenth Symphony, rather than their associations with messrs Mulder & Scully.)

Yours is to reason Y, (or Z/A as you wish) sir.
