Excuse me M'Lud, I submit the BBC have got their facts completely wrong. What is celebrated on January 13th is not Christmas but Hen Galan, or old New Year. The fact is that when the new calendar was introduced they simply decided it was their right to ignore it, and so they did and do so to this day!

Gilberto Gil is the bossa nova etc star who was Brazil's Minister of Culture

Yes, the Gwaun Valley follows the Julian calendar. I am annoyed if the BBC said it was Christmas that was celebrated and I hope they didn't do so in a smirking manner as if to say "Look at these quaint yokels, aren't they odd with their funny little ways"
