Don't be coy, heartface, and just answer the question! I have no idea who Jim or Jack or John are and what they were doing in Maidstone or Newark and I'm keen to find out, plus it would be nice to tackle an Anna Special K

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

well mercia got it so should be answering this, not me! John Jenkins, composer, born Maidstone, son of a carpenter, mate of William Lawes, Civil War, wrote 'Seige of Newark' which involved Prince Rupert of the Rhine and naive gardener as he wrote 'All in a Garden Green' I think that answers your queries. Now, where is mercia hiding, behind the sofa again?

                            Quite.

                            Simply.

                            Awesome.

                                Perfection, Anna.

... and your answer's correct, too!

(Anyone who doesn't know Jenkins' work is guided to the Naxos CD All In a Garden Green which is a splendid introduction to this excellent Music!)
