So there was! I gave it a or a I remember! Is that the same bloke? I didn't realise the joke was about FRies - I thought it was a bad pun on Rice. Anyway, I don't think I realised it was a composer - we were talking about performaers at the time weren't we, with food named after them..

No; it was a bad pun on F Ries. (And I think you'll find you asked about "Musicians" not "performers"!)

Ries isn't a bad composer at all: I first heard his Music on one of Robert Simpson's Innocent Ear programmes. A Piano Concerto of Ries' was played that sounded all the world like an unknown Mozart example.

As someone once said, how strange the mind works. I was thinking of St. Cuthbert or St. Cecilia. Methodists, pay attention at the back!! I liked the Ries joke atlhough it was not immediately comprehenisble. But humour sometimes needs a massage to obtain the kernel. That's awesomely deep, I think.
