I can see why Flay suggested "Chain" ("links", you see) but I'm stuck.Numquam Satis!

So, as mercia is correct with Gruppen for 3 Orchestras and a Cologne premiere are we looking for a Cologne connection for Joseph Hayden? But the first clue must be musical terminology beginning with a C and none that I know would fit ...... oh, hopelessly floundering on this although I did think it might be Canon initially. Did something happen to Haydn in Cologne to do with Esterhazey?
Find a C to link:
(1) shape and length;
(2) three groups;
(3) Joseph Haydn.

Ligeti wrote Apparitions in Cologne, where he worked in the same studio as Stockhausen.
Apparitions has "... a total of 234 crotchet beats in the first movement, just one more than the perfect fibonacci number of 233. Since the quotient of two adjacent numbers in the fibonacci series approaches the golden ratio of their sum, for 233 crotchets the golden section falls at either 89 or 144 crotechets. Thus, the golden section of this movement of 234 crotchet beats falls at very slightly more than 89 or 144 crotchet beats in. Counting beats, then, we find that the 144th crotchet falls in bar 71, at the basses' tremolando.... " (http://www.btinternet.com/~tim.johns...InCologne.html)
So that's an obvious association... [not]Last edited by Flay; 06-12-11, 17:23. Reason: Added reference to acknowledge author of this mindnumbing informationPacta sunt servanda !!!

In the notation? A crotchet?
Now that's a good thought."...the isle is full of noises,
