I think I'll leave this one to rubbernecker - he likes 'em cryptic!. Djokjovic v Federer promises to be more rewarding.
Well, I do like a bit of mental tussle as much as I like watching a good game of tennis. Nice to see you drop in after a long absence, Ofca. I was in your neck of the woods at the weekend, Aldeburgh, actually, but saw the signs to your 'manor'. I assume from your moniker you are something to do with Old Felixtowe Community Association, or is that just a cryptic meandering on my part?
As far as I can: slow movement of Mahler 1 is Frere Jacques, melancholy diver refers to both Jaques in As You Like It who was a miserable sod, and Jacques Cousteau. The Stage by Stage clue refers to Jaques' Seven Stages of Man speech in the aforementioned play. I can't at this instant extrapolate 'sea-less', I'm afraid.

Your assumption is correct.
As for the 'J' question: I should certainly have picked up on the reference to the Mahler 1st symphony. I could - but won't - offer the very lame excuse that the tune is sometimes called Bruder Martin in German.
