Just in... I don't think there's a problem! I think there's a general view that repeating an earlier solution such as Xavier with different questions is fine! Also that the XYZ words are voluntary and can be skipped if desired straight to A.

As a most welcome new regular, why don't you pick another XYZA letter and go again - don't think there was any grounds for a forfeit, in fact yours was a great X question!

Thanks, Cali: you will be relieved to know that, because of my error, Posters have been spared reference to the obscure Scottish composer, Xavier Breatht'kulierporridge.

Moving on ... to Y (and I hope this isn't another "repeat": I can't go through all 946 pages!):

      Faustian help for Washington Senators
      active in repose
      the owner of Broadway

All clues Musical, answer Geographical (sort of).

      Best Wishes.

Is that Mr. Applegate that I see?

          ...and Mr. Cohan, yes?
'Damn Yankees' involves a Faustian deal with Satan, aka Mr. Applegate, to restore the fortunes of the Senators. Mr. Cohan ('the man who owned Broadway') is the subject of the film 'Yankee Doodle Dandy'.

            Cor(e)!

Got two out of three in the blinking of an Y!

Now "active in repose" shouldn't be too hard if you follow the Yankees.

(I'm out to t'cricket club now until about 3.00pm, so don't worry if suggestions don't get responses between now and then!)

What's the connection with "active in repose", for those of us not fine-tuned into the Ferne-Norfolk wavelength??

                    Shania Twain, I presume?

                    <doh> emoticon. Mark Twain?

While asleep, said Yankee engages in various adventures centred on King Arthur's court.
And so back to 'A' (musical throughout):
What 'A' have Beethoven, Fauré, Mozart and Sibelius in common?

Norfy is the Ys man (or Ys-woman? In which case are there two things we should know about her ... ?)
Just to clear up: "active in repose" could suggest "Busy Doing Nothing", one of the songs on the Shania Twain album "An Conneticut Yankee in the Court of King Arthur".

Back to business: is the order in which you've written the composers' names significant, Norfy?

Ah yes I see. Cheers (nor)folks.

The A isn't about violin sonatas, is it? (Just orf the top of me 'ead...)

fernyhough beloved: no, there's no significance to the order in which the names appear. I just put them in alphabetical order. (Precisely what are the two things that you would you like to know about me, by the way)?

Cannot be A major Calibers, something Major or Minor is your speciality when it comes to question setting! It's your Public School upbringing!!

Is it, something you may find in a ballet I wonder?
