A foreign flower made me think of a Poppy of course (does anyone know our wonderful yellow Welsh Poppies, gay as a daffodil and, I think, native) Then I thought Passiflora, and The Passion of course. But the record breaking tin-tin, well, was he a bit of a flower?

Or flow-er? The Peel River in New South Wales, f'rinstance.
A Peal of Bells could be tintinnabulation (the Peal Committee monitors Change-Ringing record attempts).

... and then I hit the brick wall at the end of yet another promising cul-de-sac!
      I have to ap-peal.

Hold on! Passiflora, Anna? Bach? A (Musical?) "offering ... more deserving of a big yawn", such as the Goldberg Variations mythologized as written for a non-sleeper?

        But then "P"?

        CRASH!

Please don't trype "P" in front of elderly gents - causes a disruption in the concentration, innit

Great work, fhg! Correct general line of attack for two of the three (and pretty close on that second one, but forget the changes).

Anything to do with the River Po and Edgal Allan Poe's 'The Bells'?

This thread seems to be getting hooked on bodily functions?

No - Good try for those two, but not the required connection. Not sure if it's time for a clue, but I'll just say for the moment that I'm a bit of a Francophile.

Okay (and with thanks to Norfy):
                  The River Po
                  Edgar Alan Poe
The Pot-Pourri (or Quodlibet) that ends the Goldberg Variations.

(Incidentally, coming back to your pyrotechnic fest, when I lived in East Sussex, I could never understand the hostility to "potpourri": surely how people decorate their bathrooms is their own business?)

                  EDIT:

Ah, checking the spelling of "potpourri" meant I missed your reply to Norfy, DP: the above all redundant, then?

                    French bells - a carillon?
a French river beginning with P?
does "big yawn" mean a piece vaguely to do with sleep/sleeping?

'Fraid so, but all good cerebral exercise for a Sunday morning.

Further clues on demand. After a late rising, and a leisurely breakfast (yet to come, but I didn't get to bed until 5am) I'll be out for a couple of hours around lunchtime, then back in play.

Things are suddenly hotting up around here - perhaps I'm not the only one late up?

No! It's difficult to say anything at this stage without people examining every word for a hidden meaning.
