Here goes ... What works link Tchaikovsky, Rimsky Korsakov and Offenbach to a degree?

Connecting word or words begin with S.

Got it in one. Well done. I didn't know that Offenbach started the "craze" for snow dances- bizarre.

Over to you now for T.

are you sure? I expect Tschaik. wrote other snowy things. that Offenbach looks a right carry-on, I wonder if it ever gets performed.

short hiatus whilst I think of T

Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Snowflakes from the Nutcracker
Rimsky - Snow Maiden and Offenbach - Le voyage dans la lune which has Ballet des flocons de neige in Act III.

Tchaikovsky also wrote Winter Daydreams (Symphony 1) and, as you say, there may be other pieces with a snow theme.

DSCH had the hots for music student Galina Ustvolskaya and the last part of the 5th String Quartet contains a musical reference to her.... So did she write a 6 minute symphony and entertain the dislike you describe?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
