your clue suggests a string ensemble, like members of a string quartet, perhaps?

Arnold Steinhardt, John Dalley, Michael Tree, David Soyer/Peter Willey
and more research tells me that the Guarneri family of luthiers consisted of Andrea, Giuseppe and Pietro
didn't know that the proper name for violin makers was luthiers (says wikipedia)
so I reckon G = Guarneri
