Dobcross Band plays Barnard Castle by Goff Richards. Conducted by Les Beevers.

That would be your actual Ecossaise(s), methinks.

Messiaen's Variations Ecossaises (of which I had previously been unaware - thanks mercia!)
      Debussy's Marche Ecossaise
      Chopin's 3 Es
Schubert apparently wrote quite a number.

(Still smarting from my personal David debacle, which I should have got for a couple of reasons, one being that I had the first and last elements but could not square them with the second clue so ably provided by young mercia )

      Morning one and all.

            Feeling suitably cleansed now.

A risky, slightly awkward F (2 elements are musical, as is the answer)

            F

Stop the French and English, old bean.

Good grief, ams! An organ stop - singular - puts you on the right track.

The only 'f' stop I know is the 'flute' family

                            Flageolets.

That's all I have to say.

Nothing half-baked or green about that answer, Caliban. You are broadly correct of course. Can you provide a G before I do a runner?

I didn't realise it was the answer... and am somewhat incommoded with work, hence the delay. Hence also that I don't think I can come up with and caretake a "G". I only got where I did due to Ammy51: may I offer him the chance of setting the "G"?
