Well done. Obviously the mind was set off on nocturnal ramblings following moon.

      You have the O.

indeed, 'fraid I can't continue in the same vein. morning by-the-way. bit obscure this, googling probably required.

        an O to connect

the LSO (no not that LSO), Ardbeg whisky and May 11th

Morning mercia. This O is proving quite fiendish, but I am prepared to hazard a guess:

          Osmo

Osmo Tapio Raikala, Finnish composer of "Ardbeg: The Ultimate Piece for Orchestra"
Osmo Kaila, chess grandmaster: born May 11, 1916
Osmo Vanska, Conductor Laureate of LSO (Lahti Symphony Orchestra)

          ??

          With many thanks to Wiki...

May 11th is the Finnish nameday for all Osmos (apparently)

Cheers mercia. I was unaware of the Finnish significance of May 11

Great clues though - really got the brain cells working.

              Time for a P:

What P connects specific works by, inter alia, Josquin, Saint-Saens and Jimi Hendrix.

I thought it was very good, borderline fiendish - bamboozled me in a pleasant way and gave me a hankering for a big splash of Ardbeg in a nice heavy glass...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

or, indeed, works by Bartok, Maxwell Davies and Beethoven...

Is all of this too oblique, by any chance? Would citing some specific works be of benefit at this point?

might be. I have been working on it, on-and-off, honest. so far I think I've got Prince and Pentecost. make us sweat a bit longer.

is the connecting P word in the titles of the works or somehow in the works?

not sure I know what I mean by that .................... you may do though

The connecting P is not in the title of any of the works, but is a characteristic of all of these works. All of the works are very well known.

                                Can you expand upon parody?
